Is there an anti-vandal kit for Caroma
toilets?
Yes. Caroma toilets are in thousands of commercial buildings around
the world and as such have all of the accessories required for those
installations. The SSI part number for this kit is 413276. This is
a simple line drawing of the product:
What is the ADA button kit? The
ADA button kit is an optional button that is intended to be used in
applications, be they commercial or residential, deemed to be used
by physically challenged individuals. The standard Caroma buttons
would be difficult to depress for an individual with limited use of
their fingers. The ADA button kit is a raised button that makes anyone
able to easily activate either of the Caroma dual flush buttons. The
ADA button kit is SSI part number 405067.
Will the Tasman tank fit onto the Caravelle 270 bowl?
No. The Tasman 270 is a ‘stand alone’ toilet. While
the Tasman 270 bowl (609169) looks very similar to the standard
270 bowl (609159), the bolt holes will not align. The Tasman 270
bowl will only accommodate the Tasman polypropylene tank (model
800032). If you ever have a concern about a Tasman tank not fitting
on to a 270 bowl, please ensure that the correct bowl was shipped.
Will the Caravelle tank fit onto the 270 or the 305
bowl?
Yes! The Caravelle tank (629435) as well as the Reflections tank (629530)
or the Royale tank (624530) will fit any of the following bowls:
609159 270 Round Front Bowl
609100 270 Elongated Bowl
609177 270 ADA 17” ‘Easy Height” Round Front Bowl
609120 270 ADA 17” ‘Easy Height” Elongated Bowl
609151 305 Round Front Bowl
609130 305 Elongated Bowl
What is a HET?
HET stands for High Efficiency Toilet; a standard that is quickly
replacing the old ULF (Ultra Low Flow – referring to toilets
that flush on 6 litres of water). The old ULF standard was established
in North America in the 1980’s when U.S. government mandated
that manufacturers could use no more than 6 litres per flush.
A HET is any toilet that uses at least 20% less water than a standard
1.6 gallon toilet. In other words, any toilet that flushes on 1.28
gallons per flush or less is considered to be a HET. Many regions
and cities are starting to offer rebates for HET toilets based on
their superior water saving ability and high performance standards.
All Caroma dual flush toilets are approved HET’s.
Can I use any North American seat on a Caroma toilet
bowl? Yes. A Caroma 270 or 305 bowl will accommodate
a standard North American round front seat and the new Caroma 270
and 305 elongated bowls will accommodate North American elongated
bowls. However, a lot of engineering has gone into the design of
Caroma toilets, including that of the seat. Caroma seats are not
only high quality, extremely attractive seats, but they are designed
to ‘position’ people properly over the water spot in
the bowl to ensure optimal cleanliness. Also, Caroma includes some
extremely popular features such as the ‘quick release’
seat offered on the Caravelle 2000 seat. With the push of a button
these seats quickly pop off allowing easier and more effective cleaning.
Caroma seats also truly finish off the look of a Caroma toilet,
with shapes that completely compliment the size and design of the
bowls. Plus, the colour of a Caroma seat will perfectly match the
colour of a Caroma toilet suite. So, while the answer is yes, we
would recommend the use of Caroma seats on Caroma bowls.
What is a washdown toilet?
North American toilets most commonly utilize siphon jet technology.
Most of the water in the tank is used to create a vacuum or siphon
effect in the trapway of the toilet bowl, which then pulls the waste
out after the water. In the past several North American toilets
have been subject to clogging because with lower volumes of water
used in ULF toilets, the trapways of the bowls had to be reduced
to allow the vacuum to be created.
Washdown toilets do not use this flushing mechanism. When flushed,
the water is released very quickly from the tank and is released
into the bowl through and open rim bowl design. The water very effectively
and efficiently pushes the waste out of the bowl, which is then
followed by the water. The flush is very fast, and allows for superior
movement down the sewage drains, as the water is following the waste.
Because washdown toilets do not rely on creating a siphon effect
in the trapway, they do not have to be reduced.
Caroma toilets feature a massive 4 inch trapway, virtually eliminating
the possibility of clogging!

Caroma toilets look good, but I am nervous buying
new technology. How do I know that they will really work?
This would be an understandable concern if dual flush technology
were new, but it isn’t! Caroma pioneered dual flush technology
in the early 1980’s, and dual flush is predominantly used
in most countries around the world. Caroma originates from Australia,
and dual flush has been mandated in Australia and New Zealand since
1992. Caroma is the definitive leader in the world wide dual flush
market. It isn’t something that they dabble in. They don’t
produce a few dual flush products among a sea of single flush products.
It’s all they do! Literally millions of dual flush toilets
have been installed and are performing perfectly in homes and commercial
buildings all around the world. This is a proven technology. So,
while it is relatively new to North America, it is far from a new
technology!
How much water would my family of four save using
a Caroma dual flush toilet?
Of course this depends on the volume of water your current toilets
are using, but if your family currently has a 3.5 gallon (13 litre)
toilet, you would use approximately 26,000 gallons (96,900 litres)
of water per year for the toilet. By converting to a Caroma dual
flush 6/3 litre toilet, your family would use only about 7,000 gallons
(26,280 litres) of water per year for flushing toilets. That is
a savings of over 18,300 gallons (68,000 litres) of water per year!
We live in Seattle, WA, where it rains a lot. Why
should we care about saving water?
Water conservation is extremely important, even in areas of the
world that experience a lot of rain. Here are some reasons why:
• The true ‘cost’ of water involves much more
than the actual amount of water an area has! Even if water is abundant,
and this is seldom the case any more as even cities famous for their
wet climates such as Vancouver and Seattle are facing increasingly
severe drought conditions throughout the summer, every drop of water
entering your home must be chemically treated. The more water we
use, the higher the cost of water filtration and treatment.
• Every drop of water leaving your home must be processed
through a waste water management facility. This is an expensive
process both economically and environmentally. The less water we
use for household purposes, the less dirty water is processed and
returned to our oceans.
• Population bases of cities are growing quickly. The more
we can reduce our water usage, the more people can be serviced by
the existing water infrastructure. Water infrastructure improvements
are vastly expensive and completely funded by tax dollars!
Is it difficult to install a Caroma toilet? It looks
different? No! It is no more difficult to install a Caroma
toilet than any other standard North American toilet. For a complete
demonstration, visit the “Tips and Training” section
of our web site.

My Caroma dual flush toilet doesn’t seem to
be clearing the waste from the bowl as it should. What is wrong?
Caroma dual flush products are highly effective, washdown toilets
that can be relied upon to clear waste every time. If you are experiencing
difficulties, the most common problem is that the water level in
the tank has not been set properly.
While it is always important for water levels in toilets to be
adjusted properly, it is absolutely crucial with a HET, as they
are working on such low volumes of water. The technology is very
precise, and if the water level isn’t correct, this has serious
impact on the flushing characteristics of the product.
How do I adjust the water level on a Caravelle tank?
This is a very simple to do, but more difficult to explain. Please
visit our “Tips and Training” section for a complete
demonstration of the process.
How can using SSI Tapware save me money?
SSI Tapware showerheads use cutting edge technology to not only
save incredible volumes of water, but also to actually improve the
feel of your shower! While saving water in toilets is a no-brainer
as it represents no sacrifice to the homeowner, people tend to be
hesitant about converting to low flow showerheads. After all, this
is completely a question of personal comfort!
SSI Tapware utilizes a patented venturi vacuum breaker that compresses
the water droplets and then pushes them out of the showerhead with
such force, you virtually can’t tell the difference between
a 1.5 GPM SSI showerhead and a standard 2.5 GPM showerhead. In fact,
many low pressure areas have installed SSI Tapware not for their
water savings, but simply for the increased pressure of water delivered!
Plus, remember, the more water you save in the shower, the lower
your gas or electricity bills will be. You have to pay to heat the
water in your shower. If you use less, you pay less! One last benefit
is that more family members will be able to take showers without
the water turning cold!
